Stepping Stone prides itself on their rude service. I havn't experienced them being exceptionally rude but they are particularly proud of a letter complaining about their service. It is framed on the wall.
The food here is pretty good. Nothing really to rave about, but it's certainly not trucker food.
If you like quaint little neighborhood hangouts, where everyone is sitting at the bar, and the waiters know the locals, this is the place to go. It's been a while since I've been here, I can't remember the coffee. I'm sure it's good though, it's Portland!

The previous owner Don was the one with the attitude and reveled in posting a customer's complaint letter, framed, about him! The new owners are awesome and the staff is only courteous. It is a great place to have breakfast, listen to music and sober up after a late Friday or Saturday night on the town (open until 3 on those nights). As a regular there, I am a bit biased -- try the chicken-fried steak IF you are hungry! -AP
Thanks Antonio. I have definitely noticed a difference since I've been there more recently. That would explain it. I'll update that soon. Thanks for the feedback, keep it up!
I went back here on Sunday and got an omelet stuffed with avocado... STUFFED with avocado! It seemed there was an entire avocado, among other ingredients in the three egg omelet. It was pretty good. My one gripe after a rough night is the tiny water cups. Between the three of us, we probably went through 20 cups :)
